About Us
Why did we start Algal Action?
It started at the edge of a green, tired-looking lake. The water that used to be swimmable had turned into a thick, painted-on bloom — and nobody around us could explain why.
So a few students did what students do best: we asked too many questions. We learned that harmful algal blooms (seriously, they're more interesting than they sound) are fueled by nutrient pollution, warming water, and slow habits — and that the best tool against them is a classroom full of curious kids.
Our Mission
Make the science of algal blooms understandable, urgent, and genuinely fun for students and communities.
Our Goals
- Bring real, hands-on bloom science into schools.
- Turn "gross green water" into a story people care about.
- Grow a network of young community scientists.
